About the Role
An exciting opportunity for a design assistant to join the gorman apparel design team full-time at our Abbotsford head office.
As an Assistant Designer, you will support the Design Team across all stages of the design and development process. Working closely with senior designers, this role assists with research, product development, sample coordination, and cross-departmental communication. It requires strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and a passion for fashion and product design.
What You’ll Be Doing
Design & Development Support
Assist the Design Team with daily tasks, ensuring smooth workflow across seasonal collections.
Prepare and update lookbooks, line sheets, and other presentation materials.
Review and approve lab dips, trims, embroideries, and knit-downs.
Create style descriptions and product information for online and internal use.
Maintain and update the sample tracker, ensuring accurate data entry and version control.
Organise range reviews, including preparing vote lists, hanging and steaming samples, and setting up displays.
Support photoshoots for range reviews, e-commerce, and campaigns as required.
Develop seasonal style and product guides in collaboration with the team.
Maintain a tidy and organised workspace, ensuring all samples, approvals, and fabrics are properly stored and labelled.
Creative Contribution & Design Process
Contribute to the design process under the mentorship of a Senior Designer.
Conduct trend analysis and assist in developing key shapes, details, and embellishments.
Create mood and theme boards, following the design directions and merch plan.
Produce CAD drawings and create tech packs for our suppliers.
Participate in proto fittings, providing notes and feedback for development improvements.
Liaise with suppliers to track samples, communicate updates, and resolve development issues.
Conduct store visits to review bulk garments, gather feedback, and assess product performance.
About You You’re highly organised, detail-oriented, and eager to learn every aspect of the design process. You bring structure to creativity, ensuring deadlines are met, details are perfect, and every project runs seamlessly.
You’ll Bring
Strong organisational and communication skills.
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office.
A sharp eye for colour, fabric, and texture.
Enthusiasm, initiative, and a willingness to learn.
A tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) in Fashion Design.
